Orange Soup

I was doing some research on galactogogues the other day, and made a list of a few foods that supposedly increase your milk supply. Most of them are things I don’t like or have in my house, but quite a few are cheap, simple foods. I googled the list – sweet potato, carrots,  barley, garlic, dill -and I found a recipe that actually includes all of them. I made the recipe, and here it is, with some s0918161600mall adjustments for convenience (and making it pareve). At about 180 calories a serving, with about 10-12 servings (you can figure out calories using this tool), this soup is relatively nutritious and super filling – not to mention pretty easy to make. It needs a lot of salt – it’s pretty bland without. And I do think that it works, for anyone who is nursing – but it takes a couple of days until it kicks in.

Orange Soup

oil
1 onion, diced
1 stalk celery, diced
4 cloves garlic, crushed
10 cups water
3 heaping tbsp chicken soup mix
12 carrots, sliced
1 1/4 cups barley
3 sweet potatoes, chopped
dill, to taste
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste

Saute onion, celery, and garlic in oil until soft
Add water, soup mix, carrots, and barley and boil for a half hour
And sweet potato and spices and boil until all ingredients are soft
If you prefer cream soups, blend
